Vaccination Reaction

August 25, 2013, 12:10 AM
Q: My 12 week old puppy got her 4th round of vaccinations today. Later in the day she had diarrhea twice. She cries when you touch her stomach area. Should we be worried?
A: Diarrhea following vaccinations is not as common as the local tenderness she is experiencing but we do see that occasionally. Most often there is some lethargy due to low grade fever also. These problems will pass usually within 24-48 hours. You can help with the tenderness by using baby aspirin, you need to be careful in dosing since we would suggest around 2-5 mg per pound and the smallest otc product is 81mg.
