Grooming in winter?

December 17, 2016, 11:50 AM
Q: We have a shorkie almost 6 months old. We live in Ohio so we do experience winter. Our question is should we get her groomed and her hair shaved kinda like the puppy look or just around her face because of the cold. Her hair is starting to get real long and around her face it's worse and going in her eyes. Is it bad to have her hair done in the winter?
A: Very good question. For her breed and hair type her coat is not designed for maintaining body heat that well. Certainly keeping her trimmed in winter will have little effect on body heat maintenance. I would suggest leaving some body hair but keeping her coat trimmed.
