Preventive Care

Parasite prevention products

Q: My vet recommends Interceptor for heartworms to be administered monthly at a cost of $6.77 per month. He recommends Simparica for fleas and ticks at a cost of $16.20 per month. What are your thoughts on these medications? Should they be administered monthly? In your video you said there were a variety of good choices. Are there any that are less expensive?
A: The good news is there are many good parasite prevention products. The other news is there really aren’t any “bargain” brands. Good protection these days is not cheap but still worth the price. Pick the method of administration that you feel will be the easiest to comply with.
