Q: What is the best way to handle our 10 wk old puppy's barking during the day? He is very friendly, playful, and affectionate and wants to be around us 100 % of the time. When we put him in his cage and disappear from sight, he will continue to bark for quite a long time and stops barking the instant we come back in sight. We are letting him cry it out at night and his crying has significantly subsided. Just not sure what is the appropriate thing to do during the day. We give him lots of bursts of play time but need to put him in his cage for short periods until he is potty trained.
A: First of all he should spend as much time as possible in the cage especially if pad training is the goal. Just as with whining at night you should not go back to his cage while he is noisy and for at least 30 minutes after he is quiet.
