Controlling tantrums

March 21, 2016, 11:57 AM
Q: Our 11 week maltipoo has been in his palace for 10 days now. Recently, every time he is left in the cage, he starts yelping/barking/whining, then acts frantic by trying to climb up the door to the cage then finally tearing the edge of the mat to shreds. I am worried about him eating pieces of the mat. How should I handle these "tantrums"?
A: The only way to deal with his behavior is to ignore it. As long as you use the pad clips there should be no problem as he is only able to shred the pad which has never posed a medical problem. Take a look at the discussion of phase 2 training he may be ready for extra space.
