Neutering won’t help that

January 14, 2018, 10:34 AM
Q: My puppy is 6-months old and seems to be just starting to jump on furniture when we are not looking. Going up the stairs to the bedrooms, etc. He has not yet been neutered, so wondering if that will help when he does. Not sure how to curb this as nothing seems to be working when he is in this energetic mode.
A: Neutering will have no effect on that behavior, many times I find that owners want to allow the pet on the furniture at times but not other times. That is a difficult concept for the puppy to grasp, it has to start and sometimes remain that furniture is off limits no matter what. So far as the stairs you need a baby gate. Also you may want to look at why he wants to go up stairs or on furniture and then create a suitable option for him.
