Tearing up pads

November 18, 2019, 2:24 PM
Q: Our puppy is tearing up his puppy pad when we put him in his crate. Do you have a solution for this behavior? We're concerned about him possibly eating the absorbent material and plastic backing on the pad. He's a 9 week old french bulldog.
A: Tearing up pads is an annoying problem but it does not represent a threat to your puppy. I have never had to remove shredded pad pieces from a dogs GI tract. Supplying interactive toys like Kong Quest or Starmark Everlasting Treat can sometimes help. Once you get to phase 2 of training it usually becomes less frequent.
