Red color in poop

November 29, 2013, 10:20 PM
Q: My puppy, 15 week old shorkie, has had soft stool for the past couple of days and today I noticed a small amount of red liquid, about the same size as the tip of my pinkie, in his feces. He has been eating Canidae dry food and the last couple of days I mixed it with a teaspoon of Blue Wilderness wet food. He also chews on the 1 day Mini Dingo rawhide chews with reddish colored strips wrapped around them. He is up to date on his shots and is due to go back December 6th of this year. Should I be concerned about the reddish color liquid?
A: As long as your puppy feels good and has a good appetite I wouldn't worry about the red color unless it continues without the treats. There is a lot of mixing going on in the diet, you might want to simplify it a bit.
