The Cavachon first made its appearance in America in 1996, and quickly climbed to the top of the most loved “designer breeds”, because of their sweet personality and their kind faces. The Cavachon is the result from crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a Bichon Frise. The common colors of this breed are black and tan, brown, red, tri-color, and white. This is a small breed with a gentle and playful personality.

    The max height of this breed is typically 15 inches with a maximum weight of 8 pounds. They are extra fluffy and silk like, which is inherited from the Bichon. It will require regular grooming because of how fast their fur can grow. The coat can grow from 3 to 5 inches rather quickly. We recommend that you groom your Cavachon about once or twice a month depending on the season. Brush them frequently as a puppy to avoid tangles in the fur and to get them use to the brush to make grooming much easier in adulthood. Carefully clean its ears and eyes because they will easily become dirty and may cause infection if left unattended.

    It is recommended to only use dry food with a focus on oral hygiene for this breed to prevent tooth loss. The quantity of food should be closely monitored to avoid obesity and potential health issues. Two meals a day followed with exercise such as, long walks or a game of fetch should be enough to keep the Cavachon healthy and fit. However, the Cavachon is an active and friendly breed and will want regular play sessions to exert their excess energy. This breed loves to be pampered and easily creates a strong bond with its owner.

    The Cavachon is very easily trained, it enjoys learning new tricks to entertain its owner. It will bark to alert or even to just talk to their owner. The Cavachon loves to show affection any time, regardless of what’s going on around them. This pup is a very clever breed and does not need any help in entertaining itself. Cavachons respond well to positive reinforcement, so instead of reprimanding what the dog didn’t or couldn’t do, praise them for eventually doing what you wanted them to do.

    Generally, the Cavachon breed has good health without issues. It may be prone to disease inherited from the Cavalier Spaniel and Bichon such as, epilepsy, flea bite allergies, heart diseases, and hip dysplasia. Over all, this energetic, intelligent, and gentle breed will give you a lot of love over their span of 10 to 12 years.
