Appearance

The Maltipom is a toy-sized pup that weighs 4 to 8 pounds and is 8 to 10 inches tall. They are a cross between the Maltese and the Pomeranian.

They are the cuddliest pups on the planet. They are known for their elegant demeanor, playful disposition, and cute-cuddly looks. The Maltipom is a small dog weighing 4 to 8 pounds and 8 to 10 inches tall. This tiny toy-sized dog has a sturdy and hardy build.

They have teddy bear-like round heads and cute, alert eyes that are dark and expressive. Their adorable ears are typically pointed upwards. The tail is slightly curved at the tip and hangs down over their backs. The coat is silky, soft, and straight with some curls around the neck and forelegs.

The Maltipom comes in black, white, cream, orange, red, or any combination of these colors along with tan markings on the face and toes (tricolor).

The coat of the Maltipom is low shedding which makes them ideal for people who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Temperament

The Maltipom is a cross between a Maltese and a Pomeranian. They are small-sized dogs, which makes them excellent pets for families, singles, or seniors. They are known to be affectionate, sweet, friendly, and gentle. The most important thing that makes this pup so popular is their affectionate nature towards their owner and family members. They are highly attached and at times protective of their family members.

The temperament of the Maltipom can be described as one that is cuddly and caring. Young puppies or adult dogs can be really playful. They love their puppy toys and games such as hide and seek with doggy treats or fetch games.

They also enjoy tug-of-war games, obstacle courses, noisy toys like squeaky rubber balls, and dog food puzzle toys that dispense treats. They adore playing hide-and-seek with their owners too, especially when there are doggy treats involved.

Care

Grooming

The Maltipom has a short and straight coat. This means that they are medium to high maintenance when it comes to grooming. They do need regular brushing to keep their coats in good condition. The coat also needs combing every few days in order to remove any tangles or mats that may form on their coats after exercise or playing outdoors.

Bathing should only be done when necessary as too frequent bathing can cause dry skin problems. They should be bathed once every few months or so depending on how dirty their coat gets from playing outside or rolling around on the grass after an outdoor walk.

Nails should be trimmed regularly to avoid overgrowth which can cause discomfort while walking on hard surfaces like pavement.

Tooth brushing your pup two times a day is traditionally recommended but brushing three times a week will suffice if it means practicing good oral hygiene for your furry friend.

Exercise Needs

The Maltipom is not a high-energy dog breed, but they do require daily exercise.  While they do not require as much exercise as other dog breeds, they still need to get out and run around a few times each day.

The best way to give your Maltipom the exercise that they need is by taking them for walks on daily walks. This will help to burn off some of their pent-up energy and keep them healthy and happy. You should try to take your Maltipom for at least two brisk walks each day. One of the walks should be at least 30 minutes long.

Puzzle toys like Kongs are great for keeping your Maltipom occupied while you’re away from home or busy doing other things around the house.

Health

The Maltipom is a hybrid between the Maltese and the Pomeranian. They are a healthy breed with no known inheritable diseases or conditions. A cross between two purebred dogs will always produce a healthier animal than either parent alone because it has hybrid vigor (a genetic phenomenon that produces healthier offspring than either parent).

Cataracts are present in both parent breeds but can progress more rapidly in older dogs due to an increase in intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye). They usually develop after 10 years of age and can progress quickly if left untreated. Early detection can help prevent further progression or improve vision even if surgery is needed later on.

Lifespan

The Maltipom has a lifespan of 10 to 14 years. The average lifespan of a Maltipom is 12 years but some may live as long as 16 years or more.

Training

Maltipoms are intelligent dogs that respond very well to training. They are people-pleasing and positive reinforcement-based, so they will do almost anything for treats.

When training Maltipom puppies, it is important to remember that they have a short attention span and can become easily distracted by other things around them.

It is important to train your pup when they are in a good mood and not when they are tired or hungry. If you train your pup at a time when they are tired or hungry, you are more likely to get unresponsive behavior. Your dog will get frustrated and act out if the training process is too difficult for them. If they cannot figure out how to do something correctly, they may lose interest in the training process altogether. This type of behavior can also be caused by fear.

Socializing during early puppyhood will help prevent bad habits from developing later on in life. Separation anxiety is common in this breed so do not leave them alone until you know they can handle it without getting upset or destructive.

History

Maltipoms are a cross between two ancient and adorable dog breeds. They combine the intelligence, sweet temperament, and cuteness of the Pomeranian with their Maltese parent's affection, loyalty, and intelligence.
Maltipom history is attributed to the following breeds: Pomeranian and Maltese. Here is a brief overview of their history.

It is said that the Maltese is among the oldest of any dog breeds. Their ancestors have served as companions and faithful guards to shepherds and farmers who worked livestock in Malta, which was once a strategic island situated at an important crossroads for military, religious, and trade travelers.

The Maltese has been around for centuries and was originally used as a companion dog and watchdog in the Mediterranean islands of Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Today, the breed is known worldwide as a popular companion dog that is ideal for families with children.

The Pomeranian dog breed is a very small, fluffy dog that has become hugely popular in the last few decades. Originating from Germany, the Pomeranian was originally bred as a herder and was used by Polish nobility to hunt game in the forests of Poland. The breed started out as a large, Spitz-type dog that was eventually bred down in size to the cute stature we see it in today.

Pomeranians have always been a favorite of noblemen and royals. Kings and queens have taken a liking to this breed for centuries, often raising them in the lap of luxury.
