Appearance

Shih Poms are small dogs who love to be around people. They are playful and affectionate and make great family pets.

Shih poms look like teddy bears, with long, silky hair that makes them look like they’re wearing a costume. They have a round head with a flat face, big eyes, and a short muzzle. Their ears are small and pointed at the tip, and their tail curls over their back.

Their coat colors usually resemble their parents or even a combination of those two with colors of sable, red, orange, brown, and gray. The coat of this hybrid breed is low-shedding and has hypoallergenic qualities. This crossbreed dog can vary in size from 7 to 12 inches tall with a weight of 4 to 15 pounds.

Temperament

Shih Poms make wonderful family dogs. They are playful and affectionate. They are very smart and easy to train. They love to be the center of attention and will do anything to get it. This makes them very entertaining dogs, but it also means they are not well suited to be left alone for long periods of time.

The Shih Pom is a moderately energetic dog that needs exercise daily. They love being outside running around with their family members, but they also need plenty of toys to keep them busy inside the house. If you don't want to take your Shih pom outside every day, then they will need playtime each day with their owners and other pets.

The personality of a Shih Pom is playful, affectionate, and well-behaved around children. These dogs are great companions for any family member who wants a loyal friend that will always be there for them no matter what.

Care

Grooming

These dogs have moderate grooming requirements and can be easily groomed at home. Regular ear cleaning is important for this breed because they tend to get water in their ears which can lead to an infection. The nails need trimming every month or two depending on how fast your dog grows their nails (some dogs grow fast).

The Shih Pom coat is beautiful, soft, and silky. They do not shed much and have hypoallergenic qualities. They should be brushed multiple times every week to keep their coats free of mats and tangles.

Bathing should be done once per month at most unless your dog gets into something that requires more frequent bathing.

Brush their teeth at least twice a week using canine toothpaste designed for dogs. Brush using circular motions and rinse thoroughly before letting the dog drink any water. If you cannot brush your dog's teeth yourself, take them to the veterinarian every six months for professional dental care.

Exercise Needs

They were originally bred to be companion dogs. Shih Poms are moderately active, with low exercise requirements. They need about 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercise but should get more than that if possible. They love their walks and don't tire easily.

Shih Poms have a tendency toward obesity, so regular exercise is important to keep them healthy and happy. If you have trouble getting them out for walks every day (or even every other day), consider hiring a dog walker who can get out there with them at least once a week.

Health

Shih Poms are a cross between a Pomeranian and a Shih Tzu. This means that they have the best traits of each breed. Hybrid vigor is when two different breeds come together and their offspring are healthier than either parent. In this case, hybrid vigor has allowed for a small dog with less shedding than either parent. It also means that your Shih Pom may not have any health issues. This is especially true if you get your puppy from a reputable breeder who has health tested their dogs before breeding them.

Shih Poms are known to be a healthy breed, though there are some issues that can affect all small breeds. These dogs have been known to suffer from health issues such as allergies, dental problems, severe weight gain, and thyroid issues but there are steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of these problems occurring in your pet. Regular vet checkups should always be a priority with any breed of dog.

Lifespan

Shih Poms are known to have a lifespan of 12 to 16 years, but with a healthy lifestyle, the average can be even longer. Dogs are living longer due to advances in veterinary care and nutrition.

Training

Shih Poms are very trainable, which is one of their best traits. They are highly intelligent and quick learners, and they enjoy following new commands. They are eager to please their owners, and they will work hard to do so.
Training these pups can be done by anyone with the proper knowledge and patience. Although training can take some time, it's well worth it when you see how well your dog performs on command.

The first step in training a Shih Pom is socialization. This means getting your puppy used to meeting new people and being around other animals at an early age. The more people and dogs they meet during their early months, the more comfortable they will be with them later on in life.

The Shih Pom is a loyal and affectionate dog that gets along well with children and other pets. They can be trained to take part in various competitions like agility or obedience.

The best way to train them is through positive reinforcement. This means rewarding the dog for good behavior instead of punishing bad behavior. For example, if they sit when you tell them to, give them a treat or throw their favorite toy across the room so that they go after it eagerly. This will reinforce their desire to sit whenever they hear the word "sit."

History

Shih Poms are the newest hypoallergenic dog breed created from the purebreds Shih Tzu and Pomeranian. They are known for their charm, cuteness, and ability to impress everyone who sees them. Although the Shih Poms breed hasn’t existed for too long, they do have parent breeds that can help us learn more about them.

The Shih Tzu is a breed of dog that originated in China, where it was bred to be an indoor court companion for Chinese royalty. It was believed that the ruler would bring good luck to their people if they owned a Shih Tzu. They were also kept as pets by upper-class families. The Shih Tzu was first introduced to the Western world after World War II when some soldiers brought them back from China as mascots. Since then, they have become popular among many people all over the world because of their soft fur and cute little faces.

The Pomeranian is one of the oldest breeds in Europe. It is believed that these dogs were brought to Europe by Vikings. The Pomeranian was originally bred for hunting, but later it has become a companion dog. Although the Pomeranian was originally used for hunting, it is now kept as a pet. The breed was named after the region of Pomerania in northern Germany and Poland, where it originated. The foxlike breed is one of the most adored dogs of our time.
